This guide is based on the installation conditions Zentro reviews across homes and small businesses in the Greater Toronto Area. Final recommendations depend on the property and equipment.

Start with the recorder and network location

Every route should work back to a practical NVR, PoE switch or network location with power, ventilation and internet access. Planning this point first prevents unnecessary cable and awkward recorder placement.

Attic and soffit routes

For upper exterior cameras, an accessible attic can provide a protected path to soffit mounting locations. The installer still needs to check insulation, roof geometry, fire separations and whether the intended soffit section can be reached safely.

Basement and utility routes

An unfinished basement or accessible mechanical area can make first-floor and exterior runs more direct. Finished ceilings, ductwork and structural members may limit the route and should be reviewed before a concealed installation is promised.

When exterior cable or conduit is the better choice

If there is no practical concealed pathway, outdoor-rated cable or conduit can produce a neat, serviceable result. Colour, fastening, drip loops, entry sealing and the route around doors and windows all affect the finish.

What to send for a remote estimate

Photos of each proposed camera location, the electrical or network area, attic or basement access and the exterior route help identify likely options. A site visit is recommended when access is uncertain.
